ON-LINE EDITION

NOTES

  • Souzoku joins the main cast in this issue.
  • Souzoku's chest armor is different than on page three of issue six. That version was a tweaked shape from the original character design sketch. His armor in this issue accurately reflects the original design.
  • The flashback story was drawn fully in pencil and then shaded a light grey to give a "sketchy memory" feel.
  • Beginning with this issue, Kouen's katana is now sheathed to his waist instead of across his back.
  • The symbol for gold, the Re<Verse's currency, is represented by the letter G with a line down the middle.
  • For the on-line edition, an entire page was created to reflect a section of the script that was removed before the issue went into production. (Shiro having another nightmare.) Originally, the page was omitted because of the standard 14-page limit. It was also felt that re-establishing Shiro's nightmares was redundant, even though it went farther in depth than before, and the scene served as a set-up for the next issue's main plot.
  • Kouen breaks the fourth wall for the only time in the series at the end of page 13.

REFERENCES

  • One of Kouen's friends wears a New York Yankees baseball cap and a shirt reading "NYY."
  • The White City flag looks like the Cingular logo.
  • The guy on page 7 has a "Wassup?!?!?" shirt, echoing the short-lived Budweiser ads where a group of people obnoxiously shout the question over and over.
  • Faye's Casino is a reference to Faye Valentine in the anime Cowboy Bebop. She was often gambling all her money away.
  • The SAB booth's "Closed" has the Japanese kanji for "Closed" underneath it.
  • Emri's comment about Souzoku being Estrella's mutant sidekick is based on Ortega from The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies. Ortega is Estrella's mutant sidekick in that movie, though he does not have telepathic powers.

GOOFS

  • Souzoku's chest armor is different than on page three of issue six. That version was a tweaked shape from the original character design sketch. His armor in this issue accurately reflects the original design.
